Over Our Own Lives

You’ve lived other lives before me.  This, I can’t get over.  We still hide what we know; this is our denial.  Much of our discomfort comes from our own attitudes.  She had a Ziplock bag full of Kleenex.  This is what happened to me.  I was always wrong and bad, I took that show on the road.  Excessive scrutiny of others can be counterproductive.  I feel bad, darling, I do.  It goes very far back, that feeling.  At tables in restaurants, I put my hand on his leg.  We are together.  I opened up so many letters.  I erased so many things.  We have both begged, darling, don’t you know?
